It was created in 1968 by the construction of the Eagle Creek Dam on the Eagle Creek, which is a tributary of the White River. The reservoir serves as a water supply for Indianapolis and as a recreation destination for boating, fishing, camping, hiking, and birdwatching. The reservoir is home to a variety of fish species, including largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. The Eagle Creek Park, which surrounds the reservoir, offers a range of recreational amenities such as boat rentals, picnic areas, nature center, and hiking and biking trails.
